Our verdict
For most CKB holders, Neuron is the best all-round Nervos wallet: it is the official desktop wallet with full-node security, supports the Nervos DAO and handles xUDT tokens. Portal Wallet is the easiest option if you want browser or mobile access with an existing Ethereum wallet. For long-term storage, connect a Ledger, which Nervos officially lists as supporting CKB.

Nervos (CKB) wallets at a glance
Nervos is a Proof-of-Work L1 with its own account model and address format. CKB addresses start with ckb1… and are case-sensitive, which immediately rules out Ethereum wallets: MetaMask cannot read or sign for a ckb1 address. This is the main reason the “best Nervos wallet” answer differs from the answer for EVM coins.
The good news is that the ecosystem is small but clear: Neuron for desktop, Portal Wallet for browser and mobile, and Ledger for hardware storage. Choose one of these and treat generic “CKB support” claims with suspicion.
All wallets recommended here are self-custody: you hold the private keys and the recovery material. Holding CKB on an exchange is custodial — practical for trading, but the exchange holds the keys. Since CKB is not listed on Bitvavo or Finst, the exchange-vs-self-custody decision is the same, just made on a different platform.
The pattern that works: buy on an exchange, then withdraw anything you plan to hold to Neuron, Portal Wallet or Ledger. Keep the first withdrawal small and confirm the balance appears at the correct ckb1 address before moving more.
Neuron uses a mnemonic phrase generated during setup — write it down and store it offline, never in a screenshot or cloud note. Portal Wallet has no separate phrase: it signs through your connected EVM wallet, so the EVM wallet’s recovery phrase is your backup path. Ledger keeps the seed on the device, backed up by its own recovery phrase.
Whichever route you choose, test recovery before depositing anything meaningful: create the wallet, note the phrase, wipe or reset, restore, and confirm the balance appears.
ckb1….Finst lists Nervos (CKB) with SEPA/iDEAL deposits and MiCA authorisation. Bitvavo does not currently have a tradeable CKB market — its Nervos page exists, but the public market API lists no CKB pair — so Finst is the route. The withdrawal step is the same as on any venue: send CKB to a ckb1… address in a wallet from this page and verify the network shown is Nervos.
The Nervos DAO lets you lock CKB for a fixed deposit period and earn compensation funded by network issuance — the closest thing CKB has to staking. It is available in Neuron and other Nervos wallets. Read the deposit parameters before locking anything, and remember that locked CKB cannot be spent until the period ends.
After buying, withdraw CKB to your wallet on the Nervos network — never another network. The exchange withdrawal screen should confirm the network; because CKB addresses are unique, there is no chain-selection ambiguity as long as you paste the correct ckb1… address. Send a test amount first.
Best for: most CKB holders. Price: free (Windows/macOS/Linux).
Neuron is the official Nervos desktop wallet. It runs as a full node, which gives the highest level of validation but means the first sync takes time. It supports CKB transfers, xUDT tokens and Nervos DAO deposits.
Pros: official; full-node security; DAO staking; xUDT support. Cons: long first sync; desktop only.
Who it’s for: the default Nervos wallet for holding and staking CKB.
Best for: browser and mobile users. Price: free (web/iOS/Android).
Portal Wallet maps your existing Ethereum address to a CKB address, so you can send and receive CKB without learning a new wallet. You sign through your EVM wallet, which means the security of your CKB depends on that wallet’s phrase.
Pros: reuses your EVM setup; browser and mobile; no separate phrase to manage. Cons: CKB security tied to your EVM wallet; less familiar to Nervos-native users.
Who it’s for: users who live in an EVM wallet and want CKB access without a second app.
Best for: long-term holders. Price: €79–149 depending on model.
Nervos officially lists Ledger as a CKB hardware wallet option. Keys stay on the device, and signing happens through a Nervos interface. This is the right place for amounts you do not plan to move soon.
Pros: industry-standard cold storage; officially listed for CKB. Cons: requires a computer interface; less convenient for active trading.
