What Style Of Wallet Suits Me?

When it comes to style, there are certain pieces that speak volumes about you. They tell others who you are, sometimes even before you’ve spoken. These are the kinds of pieces that you feel naked without. On the off chance that you leave them at home or lose them, you immediately go into search party mode.

Stylish man

For most men that must have item is their wallet. Your wallet holds your identity though housing all of your daily essentials. It holds your identity. And this begs the age old question, what does your wallet say about you?

For many men your wallet is often tied to who you are and what you do. This is the one wardrobe piece that will be with you daily and therefore it must fulfill the needs that are tied to both style and function. The function portion of the wallet is quite obvious, your wallet must be able to hold all of your essentials such as identification, credit cards. For those items, you must consider the number of pouches in your wallet as well as the position of the identification holder. Can you access your id at a moment’s notice if necessary?

One of the worst things that can happen is that you need to pull out your ID and you spend what feels like thirty minutes fumbling and fishing around to get it out. Another consideration when it comes to function revolves around whether or not you intend to carry a large amount of change with you at any given time.

Once you have chosen an option that performs all of the duties that are necessary for your wallet to function, you are ready to tackle the elements of style that will be the spark that speaks to who you are.

The first decision that you need to make is the size of the wallet that you want to carry. In general, wallets come in standard sizes that are uniform across almost any brand. Depending on your own personal needs, you can choose from a bi-fold or tri-fold style wallet, a simple ID holder, money clip or a chain wallet.

One type of popular wallet is the 2 fold wallet that measures around 3.5 by 4 inches and is able to hold bills, identification and several photographs comfortably. The smaller version known as the tri-fold wallet measures around 7 by 9 centimeters. It is the perfect option if you are looking for a snug fit for your shirt or pants pocket.

These smaller more compact options often do not have a zipper, so they do not lend themselves as a viable option if you plan to carry change with you on a regular basis. They typically indicate a sleek, chic style preference. These wallets are the more common option and can more often than not be found at every men’s store on the market.

The larger rectangular wallets (sometimes known as long fellows) are designed to stick out of the jean or trouser for easy access. However, the downside to that benefit is that if the wallet is easily accessible to you, it is also an easy target for thieves and pickpockets.

For the most part, these long fellow wallets are typically found in rural areas and are associated with western wear or oil industry workers. You can often shop for these in places that sell clothing targeted at the cowboy clientele and come with embellished emblems that provide insight into who you are in terms of your style persona.

Once you have considered size and function, you are ready to make your final fashion statement by choosing the perfect color for your wallet. The most popular colors for men’s’ wallets are black and brown. The differentiating factor when choosing between the two classic colors is essentially preference. Take a look at your wardrobe and then select the color that will coordinate with the majority of your wardrobe as an option to get the most use out of your choice.

Remember that most wallets are constructed of leather, but that not all leather is created equally. Typically higher quality leather products come with a higher price tag which means that you need to consider your wallet as an investment piece.

Finally, examine the threading of the wallet for signs of wear. Threading is what will hold your wallet together and will be a major component of extending the lifespan of your wallet. Look for thick, precise threading that has no signs of wear in the store. If there are already signs of wear in the store, the wallet will not last on the street.

When it comes to making a style statement, your wallet will tell the story of who you are as a man. So, the next time you are in the market for this style staple, think long and hard about what your choice will say about who you are.
